HEALTH: A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
Dorland's Medical Dictionary
Dr. Steven A. Floyd founded Derry Chiropractic Center in order to provide the highest quality chiropractic care, to alleviate the suffering of humanity, and to promote the philosophy of wellness.
Chiropractic care is usually seen as care for back pain, low back pain or headaches. It is true that biomechanical injuries certainly benefit greatly from chiropractic care. A sprain/strain type injury may require mechanical resolution and Chiropractors are uniquely trained to treat these injures when occurring to the spine, as well as peripheral joints.
However the basis of Chiropractic is that it works to remove imbalances in the nervous system, the system that controls all functions in the human body. This is not to imply that Chiropractic can cure all ailments, but by removing blockages to normal nerve transmission the body regains the ability to regulate its own internal systemic balances and maintain health. As quoted above in Dorland's Medical Dictionary, health relates to wellness, not to the absence of symptoms.
Mission Statement of Derry Chiropractic
- Understanding that medical services are not designed to support performance and well being;
- And that medical management and insurance companies are primarily directed to address and treat disease states;
- And that tissue pathology is the end stage of the adaptation and disease process;
We support a proactive wellness paradigm that recognizes that spinal subluxation and it's effect to the nervous system interferes with the body's interpretation and response to environmental challenges.
Our care is designed to alleviate the pain and suffering of our patients through acute care and corrective care. This will allow the body to reverse the pathological processes that produced symptoms.
However, the goal of wellness care is to manage the systems of the body into a state of continuing well being, promoting the ability of the body to adapt to it's ever changing environment and maintain "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being."
